Dr. Emogene Dotson dies, started the WSCC nursing program

     Stubblefield Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for a Bean Station native who went on to establish a nationally recognized program at Walters State Community College.

     Dr. Emogene Whitt Dotson died Tuesday. She was 87.

     She was born in Mississippi but moved to East Tennessee in 1974, where she established the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Walters State. Dr. Dotson retired in 1993, and by that point the nursing program she helped begin had graduated more than 1,500 nurses during her 19 years at the college.

     The family of Dr. Emogene Whitt Dotson will receive friends Saturday at Stubblefield Funeral Home from 6pm-7pm with a memorial service to follow.
