A Jefferson County man who, authorities say, ran across Interstate 81 after wrecking his car was struck and killed by a passing motorist.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that 37-year-old Jeffrey Jeliff of Strawberry Plains was traveling northbound on I-81 near mile marker 22 just before 3pm Friday when he lost control of his pickup truck and struck a tree on the right side of the roadway.
For unknown reasons, Mr. Jeliff exited the truck and ran into oncoming traffic, where he was struck -and killed – by a 2009 Honda Civic driven by 34-year-old Allison Mills of New Orleans. Allison Mills swerved in an attempt to avoid Jeliff and sideswiped a 2019 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 75-year-old Robert Swann of Morristown. No other injuries were reported.
The THP ordered drug and alcohol testing on Jeffrey Jeliff for the investigation.
