Local pastor injured in White Pine fatal shooting

     A teen age girl and one adult – identified as a Mosheim church pastor- remain hospitalized following a deadly shooting Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a Pilot      gas station located on the Roy Messer Highway in White Pine.

     According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey, the shooting was the result of a custody drop-off between two parents who were meeting to change custody of their teenage child.  48 year old Christopher Ray Welch, of Harriman, Tennessee, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the White Pine Police Department.

     The two injured, a 58-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, have not had their names publicly released by law enforcement. But, church members at the Mosheim Church of God, say that the 58 year old man is their pastor, Rev. Kenny Cook, indicating that Cook is at the University of Tennessee Medical Center on life-support.

The investigation is being led by the White Pine Police Department, Sheriff Coffey said.  The incident occurred around 3:45 PM Monday in the parking lot of the Pilot gas station near the exit 4 on ramp to Interstate 81.

     The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting.
