TBI: Officer-involved fatal shooting reported in Dandridge

     Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are looking into a fatal, officer-involved shooting that took place Tuesday evening in Dandridge.

     The TBI said that late Tuesday morning, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department was asked to do a welfare check on a man who lived in the 1400 block of David Swann Drive in Dandridge, in the Dandridge Landing subdivision. When police arrived, authorities said the man refused to come outside.  Hours went by.

     The Blount County SWAT Term was called to the scene to assist.  The TBI says that, when the man did decide to come outside, it was around 5pm. As he went straight to his car in an attempt to leave. The man started the car, but he stopped the vehicle, got out and for reasons still under investigation, got into an altercation with an officer.

     This altercation led to a Jefferson County deputy and an officer with the White Pine Police Department firing shots, striking the individual. He was then taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. TBI said that no officers were injured during the incident.
